The Spacecraft by Romain Jerome

The Spacecraft Timepiece by Romain Jerome

The Future Is Now
To most, the three-hand display is still the best way of telling time. However, a few avant-garde watch makers have come up with some new solutions, which are interpreted through their cutting-edge design.

Within a decade, Swiss watchmaker RJ Romain Jerome has certainly made its mark in the lucrative world of horology. Primarily, the company is known for its successful range of DNA watches that incorporate elements from the Titanic and Apollo 11 space shuttle. The Spaceship is probably their most futuristic design and is definitely one of our favourite. It's also one of their largest timepieces, measuring an imposing 50mm x 44.5mm x 32.85mm. What makes this watch so visually striking is the vertical digital jumping hour display and rotating minutes which is positioned on the top of the watch. Jean-Marc Wiederrecht has devised a highly complicated mechanical movement to power the watch. The RJ2000-A comprises 54 Jewels,  and oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4hz)

Your Timepiece Resembles Who You Are

A timepiece or watch in the modern days now is a popular interest among both men and women. Almost all designs are worn on the wrist with functionality of telling the time, date and some like the famed Rolex President Daydate even tells it's wearer the day on its face. A tourbillion watch showcases it's precision mechanism on the dialog the watch thus making it more complicated to make and thus carries a higher price too. Man develops a personality of their own over time, naturally or otherwise. Our personality is manifested in the words we speak, the choices we make, and even the watch that we wear. Some yearn to be that which they're not; others transform themselves when necessary to become the person they desire. Everyone of us can be creative. We all love adventure. Sometimes, we need to be alpha males. Other times, we crave the knowledge of a connoisseur. But no matter what our personality, a man should always strive to live with style.

Building Your Own Watch Collection

First of all do some research on watches, what types they are, do you like watches with complications like tourbillion or moon phase. Analogue watches comes with automatic self-winding or hand wound mechanism. Normal self-winding watches have a power reserve of up to 8 days maximum. Speak with other watch enthusiasts to understand their collection or focus points and spend time considering what is available in the market as well as the type of collection you want to build for yourself.

Personally I will advise to purchase the best of the best you can afford as it is better to buy one high end watch rather than three that are of average quality. Think quality over quantity, and rarity over mass production if you are purchasing as an investment. Go for limited edition numbered pieces if there is.

The specification of a watch is very important. Water resistance, movements and watch material should all be considered. Think about the features that you desire before making your selection.

Go for auctions if you are looking for quality antique vintage timepieces. Reputable auction houses like Christie's and Sotheby's are your best bets. You might even get lucky and find your holy grail.

When choosing the make, look for manufacturers with a strong reputation and history. Whether the brand is very well known or obscure is not crucial. Prices may be high but quality will be assured with leading brands.
